When most people think of college students, they think of someone fresh out of high school experiencing the world for the first time and preparing for their future. That isn’t the case with Elizabeth Moran who has been “going to school part time forever.”
Wyandotte native and current resident of Milan, Moran, 35, is working towards a degree at Eastern Michigan University. She hopes that this will help her with a job that she already has. She currently works with statisticians at a company on statics and medical research. She will edit final reports, proposals, website marketing and even power points. A lot of stuff she works on is 50 o 60 pages long and gets published in medical journals.
Moran hopes that her schooling will help her grow in the company. She has a chance to grow with the companies marketing. “I can’t edit that stuff forever.” Moran said about it. After dealing with nonstop findings for medication for Alzheimer and diabetes the sheer facts could get to anyone.
Work, of course, isn’t the only thing Moran is interested in. She enjoys reading and has taken classes on literature at EMU. She can’t really name a favorite books, but said she leaned more towards the classes. She grew up loving C.S. Lewis and has even read Harry Potter, although she wouldn’t take the class on it. “I would rather take a class on something I haven’t read.” she said.
Moran’s 13 year old daughter is also a big reader. Her daughter also shares an interest in journalism and has taken a class on it. Moran’s daughter has given her several story ideas, such as her daughter’s strong feeling towards saving the Taiji Dolphins.
One thing Moran enjoys about her home in Milan is cutting the grass. Yes, she actually enjoys cutting the grass. She has a riding lawnmower and it takes her around three hours to cut about seven acres of land.
